Curve MasterCard credit card reviews
Curve MasterCard credit card details and credit card application link.
The
Curve MasterCard is a financial product offered by
Canadian Tire Financial Services. The card uses the Cash on the Curve rewards program, which lets you get a certain percent of cash back for every purchase you make. Here is how it works.
You automatically join the rewards program upon approval of your credit card application. Once part of the program, you will be able to earn rewards every time you make a qualifying purchase, i.e. practically any purchase you can make with a
MasterCard. However, there are a few exceptions: with interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances or similar, you will not be able to obtain cash back. At what rate you will receive your rewards depends on the amount of net eligible purchases over the program year. The latter are defined as purchases minus the purchase credits. The program year consists of 12 consecutive months and begins on the day you are enrolled in the program. The sum of the rewards is calculated in the following way: at 0.25 percent rate on the first $1500 of new net eligible purchases; then at 0.50 percent rate on eligible purchases in excess of $1500 but not more than $3000; at 1.0 percent rate on new purchases above $3000 but less than $24,000; and, finally, at 1.5 percent rate on eligible purchases above $24,000. In addition, you have the chance to increases your rewards rate twice by making a purchase with your
card in one of the following establishments: Canadian Tire gas bars, Canadian Tire stores, Mark's Work Wearhouse, and L'Équipeur. For instance, if your annual net purchases are in the amount of $2000 and you have made some of them at one of the above stores, you will receive cash back of 1.0 percent, rather than 0.5 percent. An advantage of this program is that you are not limited to making purchase in Canada alone -- you can pay with the Curve MasterCard anywhere around the world, and this will be added to your card balance, helping you accumulate more cash back.
With the Curve MasterCard, you are also entitled to the advantages common to all MasterCards, such as worldwide acceptance, 24-hour online account access, chip protection and PayPass.
Another fine feature of the card is that there is
no annual fee, regardless of how many rewards you get. However, the interest rate you will be charged is 19.99 percent, which is slightly more than you would be paying if you used some of the other rewards program credit cards (e.g.
BMO AIR MILES cards). If you opt for the BMO Mosaik MasterCard, you will get a lower interest rate of 18.5 percent and no annual fee. The grace period is 19 days, and you can get supplemental cards at no added cost. For $49 a year, card holders earn 1 cash back point for every dollar in purchases. If you prefer the no fee option, you will earn 1 cash back point for every $2 spent on purchases. In terms of insurance packages, you can choose between the Silver Travel Protection ($29 a year), the Gold Travel Protection ($69 a year), and Gold Total Travel Protection ($99 a year). The latter covers unexpected return home, collision damage waiver insurance, baggage and personal effects insurance, trip cancellation insurance, and more.
